Introduction

If you are here, you probably already know that we build websites that are simple, modern, easy to navigate, easy to update, fast to load, secure and perfectly adapted to mobile devices 🤘🏼

To create a website for your business that combines all of these characteristics, at Ubuntu Productions we have a clear process in place to ensure that we don’t overlook any of the necessary steps and details that will result in a great website. This process will also help you feel in control of each step of the project and will give you an overview of the involvement you need to have as a client in the process.

The 7 steps process we follow is fairly standard in the industry, but what sets us apart is the quality of service, care and guidance we provide at every stage. As with everything else we do at Ubuntu Productions, we aim to bring something special to every project. It’s what we call the Ubuntu Experience 😉.

A graphic of the seven steps involved in our web design processs

1. Kick-off Meeting

This first meeting is a relaxed and informal session where you will have the opportunity to tell us about your exciting project and we will work together to see if your needs, goals and budget match our offer and vision.

This initial call is free of charge, usually lasts about half an hour and is the precursor to the more in-depth Project Discovery Meeting.

You can book a this 30 minutes free call here.

2. Project Discovery

In this in-depth consultation, we look at your business, what makes it special, what the challenges are, what the goals are for the new website and much more. From this conversation we will gain the right understanding and a clear definition of what exactly needs to be achieved.

Not only that, but many of our clients have found that after this project discovery they have a much better understanding of their own business and what it takes to build a brand or website from the ground up.

This project discovery usually lasts between 1.5 and 3 hours, costs 300€/fee and you will receive a comprehensive document outlining the objectives and requirements of the project, together with a proposal.

3. Wireframe

Having a clear idea of how the site will be structured allows you to understand the journey your users will be following as they interact with your site. This will allow us to create a well-structured and intuitive experience that will lead your visitors to want to know more about your brand and ultimately use your products or services.

Once this wireframe is approved, we will embark on the most creative and exciting part of the journey, the design!

4. High Fidelity Design (prototype)

At this point in the process, we design all the pages included in the wireframe and deliver them to you as a pre-production prototype, giving you a high-fidelity idea of what your users will interact with in the final product. This prototype also includes the design of the versions of your site that will be delivered on smaller devices (such as tablets or phones).

Is at this stage that the creative energy is focused on ensuring all branding elements, spacing and content are consistent, harmonious and beautifully presented, while maintaining an essence of simplicity to make your users’ journey as smooth as possible.

This is the phase where you, or the person/team assigned to the task, will provide most of the content (unless we create it for you), which means that this is the part of the process where we need most of your involvement to ensure that the images and copy we need to use are ready when we design the pages that will contain them.

5. Website development

Once all the page template designs have been signed off, we can begin the development phase of the project. Our aim at this point in the process is to translate the designs into a fully responsive and intuitive website for your business that loads fast, is easy to update and is built to the highest security standards.

6. Optimization

At this stage, our main focus is to enhance the performance and visibility of your website by optimizing it for speed and search engine optimization (SEO). We employ various strategies, including on-page SEO techniques, internal linking and the creation of XML sitemaps, to ensure that search engines can efficiently crawl, interpret, and index your site. By implementing these measures, we aim to provide the best possible conditions for your website to rank highly in search engine results and attract more organic traffic.

To help you better understand your visitors and website performance, we will set up Google Analytics for you and integrate the most valuable information into a custom-built dashboard to help you better evaluate the information being presented.

7. Testing and training

All that remains is the final testing to make sure everything is running smoothly, and to involve the person or team in your organisation in a training session or series of training videos that will enable them to get the most out of your website.

Launch 🚀

We are all ready and excited for the launch. You can’t wait to introduce your new website to the world, and we will love to see all our efforts come to fruition and the first visitors arrive on the site. We are ready with the project but our involvement doesn’t stop here because…

Moving forwards

All the websites we create come with a 30 day service where we iron out all the little bugs that can appear once the site is live. Also, if you choose to host and manage the site with us, we will continue our relationship with you, making sure that the site runs smoothly and securely, that it is updated as required and, if desired, we will work together on a long term content creation plan.

FAQ

How long does it take to design and build a website?

Well, as with most things in life: it depends. The duration of the project can vary depending on several factors such as the size of the project, the need to generate content like images and texts, how long the client has been preparing the information going into the site, the availability of previous branding/graphic design material and more. Typically, a web design and development project can take about 12-16 weeks to complete.

Is there anything I can do to speed up the process?

Yes, of course. While we handle most of the work involved in designing and building a website, it is important to understand that you (or another designated member of your team) will need to contribute some of your own time to the project. To ensure a smooth workflow, it is best to have a clear idea of the content you want your website to include before we begin. If you have any graphic materials for the website, make sure they are organized and easily accessible. Also, make sure to set aside time to provide us with feedback as we move through the process. Additionally, a smooth, straightforward and structured communication always helps in the process.

What kind of clients do you serve?

So far we have worked with small to medium sized businesses in a wide range of sectors in different countries, but we are confident that our processes and talents can provide a great service to larger companies too. We prefer to work with companies that provide services or products with the aim of making a positive impact on the world, but we are open to all types of clients. We can communicate in English, Spanish, Swedish and Finnish.

What will be the price for my webpage?

The prices listed on this page are illustrative as the final price will be a part of the proposal that we will send you after we hold a discovery meeting to discuss your needs and goals. Examples of things that can increase the cost of a site include: the amount of pages needed, the need to translate the site, the need for a blog, the need for a membership area, the time frame, the need of complex animations or integrations and more.

Do I need to pay more for plugin licenses?

If you aren’t subscribing to one of our management plans, you will need to purchase the licences for the necessary plugins to build your site. In this case, we will include a list of plugins and the cost of their licences in the proposal. If you purchase one of our management plans, most of the required licences will be included in the package. Licences for plugins that are very specific to your project won’t be included.

Do I need to purchase hosting or management?

While it is not necessary, it is highly recommended. When we design and build a website, we are the ones who have a full overview of the project, the plugins used and the way things are built. This gives us the right information to make sure your site is optimized for the hosting environment we provide, and it is much easier for us to fix any problems that may arise.

However, we do offer 30 days of free service after launch to make sure things are running smoothly and to polish things up if necessary. After this time, if you want us to look after your site on an ongoing basis, you will need to purchase one of our hosting and management plans.
