Productions with love from a small island in the Finnish archipelago 💚

More than 12 years ago, Ida and I magically crossed paths on a mild winter's day in the city of Seville, in the south of Spain.

During our first years together, we lived in many different places: Salamanca, Lima (Peru), Menorca, the Basque Country... all these moves taught us to be flexible, to adapt quickly to new circumstances, to explore ourselves and to live simply. In all these places, Ida and I worked mainly as waiters, and it was in this job that we realised how much we loved using our talents and cheerful character to serve and help other people.

In 2016 we moved to the island of Korpo, where Ida was born, for a summer job as restaurant manager at Skärgårdscentrum
Korpoström. That summer changed everything for me as I went from being a devoted city dweller to falling in love with the sky, the forest, the sea and the community of this small island. After spending the winter in Bilbao on an internship for Ida's jewellery studies, we moved to Korpo permanently more than 6 years ago.

Not long after we settled on the island, while Ida and I were working in service businesses on the island and just before we had our first child, we started Korpo Bladet, a passion project with the idea of helping the people of this island to develop a sense of community and togetherness. This beautiful and well respected project helped us to understand that we wanted to use our talents and creativity to help other entrepreneurs like us. For this reason, after two years of working as a waiter at the local restaurant and hotel Hjalmars, I decided to start Ubuntu Productions together with Ida-Kajsa.

We have a preference for working with small and medium sized businesses (or associations) that have a positive mission and want to use their time and energy to help humanity move towards a more balanced and peaceful existence, that's why we have chosen to incorporate the Ubuntu philosophy, a message of unity and community, into the core of our business.

When you choose to work with us, you choose to be part of the Ubuntu experience, which aims to help you and us feel uplifted and empowered to build a more positive and kind future.

responsibility

We love responsibility! Taking responsibility allows us to learn, grow and contribute to the world in a meaningful way. Here are some of the things we do to help create a kinder and more positive world.

We like to maintain positive communication with our customers and suppliers. We understand that we are all human beings with dreams, challenges, fears and struggles. We believe that everyone does their best and deserves to be treated with respect and love. Only then can we use our work together to develop a kinder humanity.

For many years the dominant culture has told us that the real and exciting life is in the cities. We have discovered that living in the countryside can be exciting and fulfilling in many ways that are difficult to experience in the city. We value silence and nature, our creativity can only be at its best when surrounded by both.

We live in a small and rural community, and as an act of responsibility to this community, we use the services of local entrepreneurs as much as possible to supply the services we require.

Associations unleash the true power of communities. By coming together to work towards common goals that we are passionate about, we can bring hope and opportunity to a local and rural environment like ours. We participate in a number of associations and use our energy and time to help improve our community.

We see no point in overusing or wasting energy unnecessarily. We follow simple principles of efficiency and energy saving. We heat our home and office mostly with local and sustainably sourced firewood, switch off lights when we are not in a room, turn off computers when not in use and so on. Sustainability into the deep future is the core of our activities.

We have purchased about 90% of all our office and photography equipment second-hand from various Finnish online marketplaces. We are very proud of this, as it allows us to minimise the carbon footprint of the equipment needed to provide the best quality service possible.

We try to use our bikes as much as possible. As soon as spring arrives and the ground is free of ice, we bike many days a week to take our children to kindergarten. This allows us to offset much of the carbon produced by our activities.

We have moved to a completely paperless accounting system. Wherever possible, we order digital invoices for the products and services we use, and we avoid using unnecessary paper for printing. In this way we help to reduce the deforestation needed to feed the enourmous paper industry.
